As we welcome 2022 and anticipate the upcoming year of the Tiger (on 1st February), it feels like a good time to pause and reflect; on not only this satisfying alliteration (just me?!), but also our hopes and goals for our next rotation. This blog will hopefully give you some tiger roaring inspiration to find direction and discipline to achieve your hopes and goals over the next year.

New year's reso-what-nows?
It is common practice in the new year to set resolutions based upon improving ourselves. For example, after eating and drinking way too much over the festive period and falling off the wagon with my practice, I have started the new year (well after my husband's 40th birthday) with a daily yoga practice and am feeling great for it. Things get off to a great start because we are inspired, we are passionate and most importantly, we are motivated. But unfortunately after a while we hit a wall and lose that motivation; why?
Motivation is only temporary
Whilst we are feeling motivated, there's no real challenge because we feel the fire in our belly to do something. The real challenge is when the motivation disappears. Motivation disappears because life happens (work, family, travel, maybe a pandemic - life!) we may feel that we need to prioritise other parts of our lives over our goals. So how can we manage our goals when motivation fades?

D is for discipline
If we are solely relying on motivation to achieve our goals, chances are once that motivation subsides it negatively impacts our ability to achieve our goals. However, if we are also cultivating and relying upon discipline, this makes all the difference. Think of discipline as still getting up to that alarm even though you don't want to and have the choice not to - it's pushing that barrier and making a habit of it.
Research suggests it takes an average of 66 days for a new behavior to become automatic. If you are able to hold onto the discipline needed to achieve what you want, just for a couple of months, chances are you would formed a habit and the discipline of that habit can carry you through the tough times.
Walk the talk
One of the goals of our company over the next year is to become more proactive in our online communications. We have broken this yearly goal down by committing over the next two months to writing a weekly article on our website. So, if by April we are still writing (and you are still reading), we will have some proof the method works!
Until next time yogis!
Kim
